5. The majority of today’s British Muslim community was born in the UK. The present Muslim community formed as a result of invited migration to assist in the reconstruction of post-war Britain.
6. In the United States, women converts outnumber men by four to one, and in Britain make up the bulk of the estimated 20,000 - 25,000 converts.
7. Islamic law guaranteed women the right to vote, own property, keep their maiden names and operate business before European and American law.
8. Muslims believe that the Old Testament, the New Testament and the Qur’an originate from the same God, and believe in the Prophets, including Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad.
9. Muslims consider Islam to be a holistic way of life. It embraces the spiritual, the personal, the community, the environment and the social domains.
10. There is no central authority, hierarchy or ‘Church’ in Islam. Imams are scholars who can differ with each other, but often operate independently.
